WFA`s James Zamora Attends GRP-CPP-NDF Forum in Davao City

By: Amanda Bueno

James Zamora of Worldwide Filipino Alliance attended the GRP CPP/NDF Forum held at Menseng Hotel in Davao City on Tuesday, April 12, 2011.  Its purpose was to provide updates and prospects of the GRP/NDF Peace Talks. Participants included supporters of CPP and NDF, military representatives, local government authorities, and church leaders.

Fidel Agcaoili represented the CPP/NDF Panel while Mr. Ednar Dayanghirang represented the Government side.

The forum was well attended. It was noted that Brig. General Franco Calida, a die-hard anti-communist and now Mayor of Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, expressed support to the Peace Talks. He was the founder of the Davao Alsa Masa movement who persecuted militant groups and CPP/NPA supporters in what was known then as Davao Killing Fields.

Mayor Sarah Duterte of Davao City and Governor Lala Talino Mendoza of North Cotabato also attended and likewise expressed support to the Peace talks.

Other representatives came from key cities such as General Santos, Iligan, and Cagayan de Oro.

According to Fidel Agcaoili, regional consultations will be held sometime in July this year to widely popularize the peace talks and gain solid support from the people.

Both representatives expressed hopes that the leadership of Pres. Noynoy Aquino will end a long drawn-out hostilities between the CPP/NPA and military troops.

A Mindanao-wide movement "Sowing the Seeds of Peace" was also formed. Bishop Modesto Villasanta of the UCCP Church and Bishop Delfin Callao were lead convenors of said forum.
